Wellness Checks

As couples progress in counseling, it’s not unusual for them to have wellness checks. This is when they move from counseling every other week to lengthening the time between sessions. Couples need more time between sessions for negative incidents to emerge, and counseling is always about learning from these interactions.

The challenges become more subtle, and couples learn how subtlety creates conflict. To maintain their gains, the sessions move to once a month and eventually quarterly (every three months). These are the wellness checks that keep couples’ progress on track. Couples continue this until they feel they have advanced enough to continue their work independently.
