Offloading

I am currently working with several couples in which the wives feel they are doing a majority of the household tasks. Chores don’t need to be divided evenly; instead, the balance needs to feel fair to both parties.

Many successful couples have a clear division of labor. They know their tasks and see them through. When it feels out of balance, it only takes the person who feels they are doing more to offload a task or two to their partner. Often, these are tasks that one person doesn’t love doing, and their partner doesn’t mind doing. For one couple, cooking together and getting the kids to bed as a team was enough to feel like partners again.
