Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result. But somehow, many couples manage to do just that. They repeat patterns over and over again, maybe not expecting a different result, but certainly hoping for one.

Couples counseling helps identify what these repetitive patterns are. Then comes the work—reshaping these patterns. On their own, couples aren’t very successful in doing this. However, in the couples counseling office, this is the quest—guiding couples to interact differently than they would on their own.

Couples expect a different result, and the effort of the couples counselor is to create just that.
