As I was watching an episode of Netflix’s series The Crown, the Prince of Edinborough said to his wife Queen Elizabeth, “Don’t punish me with your silence.” The Queen suspected her husband of philandering, and rather than share with him the information she was told, she treated him with an icy silence.
The Prince could sense her negative feelings, and encouraged her to talk with him about it. The Prince never acknowledged his indiscretions, but shared the depth of his commitment to supporting her, despite struggling with this role in his younger years.
I respected the Prince’s insistence to talk with his wife about relationship issues that were overpowering the marriage. I was hoping the Prince would acknowledge his indiscretions, but at least the depth of his love and commitment came through in this powerful interaction.
