Kevin and Shauna have been dating about 4 years and Shauna was wondering about the future of their relationship. Shauna, an art teacher, is emotional, and was needing a stronger emotional connection with Kevin. Kevin, a scientist for a biotech company, is much more analytic, and was having difficulty expressing himself.

Shauna was saying I don’t even know how you feel about me, and Kevin responded, “You know that. How many times do I have to tell you?”

This was a poor response by Kevin. Shauna didn’t feel responded to. She was likely to continue bringing up the issue until he expressed his feelings adequately.

I told Kevin he needed to tell Shauna directly how he felt about her. He then said, “I am so comfortable with you and love your company. In fact, I’ve never felt so close to anyone in my life.”

This was the response Shauna was longing for. She was relieved that maybe they did have a future together.
