If you don’t like what your partner is saying or how they are saying it, many individuals criticize their partner or tell them what they should have said. One of my couples discovered a more effective response, “What works for me is. . . .”
With this statement, an individual gives their partner feedback on how to be more effective. Rather than criticizing their partner for misspeaking or telling their partner what they did wrong, they inform their partner about what works. That works for me!
