Transparency

Christie discovered that Connor was calling another woman. Since Connor had a history of not being honest, this made the issue even more problematic. Connor disclosed in our first session that he had a history of depression and was concerned if he shared this with Christie, he feared she would leave him.

A female colleague at work started talking with Connor about her family issues. Since she was being open with him, he started sharing his struggles with depression. Eventually their conversations extended outside of work.

Since Connor didn’t share his phone conversations, Christie felt betrayed. As he was being transparent in our sessions, it was clear that he didn’t have intentions with his co-worker beyond sharing his depression and being a good listener.

Christie was supportive in the session and sad that he feared sharing his vulnerabilities with her. Connor was becoming more transparent.
