Jack criticized Ashley throughout their twelve-year marriage. Now she was fed up, to the point of asking Jack to leave the house. She was suffering and couldn’t continue to live that way. Ashley said to Jack, “You don’t even like me.” 

Jack was stunned and responded, ”You are my world!” and added, “However, I can appreciate that you don’t feel valued.” This was an important statement. Sometimes Ashley even thought that Jack hated her, but this was so far from his truth. Jack never recognized how corrosive his criticism had been over the years. 

It was unclear whether he was going to be able to undo the years of damage. However, it was striking how significant Ashley was to him. His pain about possibly losing her was heart-wrenching. His only redemption was now treating her the way she always deserved.
